Downtown Portsmouth has so many fun family events, I have found myself driving by this Portsmouth NH playground many times. Always on our way somewhere, I’ve never taken the time to stop and look around. However, the climbing net looks so cool from the road that some eagle-eyed passengers in the back of my car finally demanded we check it out. I am so glad we did! We stopped there after an adventure day in downtown Portsmouth and it was a perfect transition from adventuring to a quiet ride home. There are some unique things to check out, familiar things to play with but not too much stuff that you have to drag them away.
Great Transition Activity
If, like us, you are not a local to Portsmouth, I highly recommend you go ahead and star this location in Google Maps. Next time you’re in the area you can stop here and reset before heading home. In our case, I knew at least some of my crew would be falling asleep on the drive and by the time we arrived home, the day would be done. Our Adventure Day downtown had been fun, but it was also very stimulating. This little window was the only opportunity for them to just relax and run around. It is less than 10 minutes from downtown with easy parking right next to the playground. In a plus for me, while they played on the fenced-in playground I took a minute at the car to undo some of the chaos of the day. I rounded up all the trash, refilled kid water bottles and packed all our “stuff” back into the organized bags we had started with. No one likes unloading mess after a long ride home in the dark! Thanks for the quiet and relaxing ride home, Portsmouth Plains Playground!

All the details for Portsmouth Plains Playground in Portsmouth, NH
This small playground is tucked among residential neighborhoods in the outskirts of Portsmouth, NH. It is baseball-themed in honor of the Portsmouth Plains baseball field it accompanies. There is a large line of free parking along the side of the field, so as long as there isn’t a game going on, there is plenty of parking for the playground.
Fully fenced Portsmouth, NH playground
The playground is fully fenced and gated. It is also very stroller-friendly as there are sidewalks all around. It is alongside a busy road but with a large patch of grass separating the play area from the street.
Toddler-Friendly
I would assume this playground was designed mostly to target the little siblings tagging along to big bro’s & big sis’s ball games on the field. The single slide in the park has toddler-friendly-sized steps and an easy slide down. It is also attached to a climbing area for them to explore.
Awesome Climbing Adventure
The unique climbing net is what drew us in from the street. It is connected to many other pieces that branch out from it. It is perfect for any little monkey who needs a new challenge. These are very open-ended designs that allow for kids of all abilities and styles to approach it differently and in their own way. The floor piece with five red disks on it wobbles back and forth adding even more sensory input to the setup.
